About Me

I have been practising yoga for over twenty years and am a fully qualified yoga teacher (500hrs). My passion for yoga turned into a thirst for knowledge and spirituality after experiencing a vast array of yoga styles and retreats on my worldwide travels. In 2005 I embarked on a teacher training course with the Karuna Yoga Centre, led by Ruth White, certified and inspired by B.K.S. Iyengar, it gave me a spiritual grounding that continues to inspire me. When I fell pregnant with my first child I began to follow the Ayurvedic Gentle Birth Method and modified my practice but I still felt I needed to know more about yoga at this magical time. Whilst pregnant with my second child I successfully completed the Pregnancy Yoga teacher training and subsequently the Postnatal Teacher Training at Tri Yoga in London. I am so grateful to all my teachers and continue to build knowledge, feeling like a perpetual student as my practice evolves. More recently I have been drawn to Yin Yoga and Chinese medicine, as well as being influenced by the precision and teachings of Jason Crandell. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion with you.

About Me
Level 1 - 2

Yoga is the sanskrit word for union and is an old discipline from India which is both spiritual and physical using breathing techniques, exercise and meditation as a vehicle to self realisation. Level 1-2 classes build on the foundational blocks that are established in the beginners class or from a previous yoga practice. These classes focus on breathe and movement, strengthening and opening tight areas of the body with close attention to alignment. They will explore mobility, flexibility and strength within a well balanced practice, with modifications where needed or the opportunity to work towards the full expression of a pose. Yoga is always evolving and changing so although the physical poses themselves do not change, every time you practice you will feel energetically and spiritually different so your relationship to them will change which creates your individual ‘practice’.

Level 1 - 2
Pregnancy Yoga

Pregnancy yoga can begin from your second trimester and is suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners and can continue right up to the birth of your baby. This class can relieve aches and pains, boost circulation, strengthen the body for birth and keep you fit; whilst being sensitive to you and your baby. It’s useful preparation for the birthing experience, learning to control the breathe to facilitate greater control of the breathe during labour. Yoga also offers the opportunity to bond with your baby and connect with other pregnant women. Please seek medical advice in advance if you have any medical conditions.

Pregnancy Yoga
Mummy & Me

Mummy & Me is a wonderful opportunity to nurture and strengthen yourself after birth and is suitable for mums with babies 6 weeks plus or when you feel your body is ready for a regular practice. This class focuses on you by reconnecting to your body and breathe, strengthening back, abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and releasing tension in shoulders and hips. It’s a beneficial way to support your body as it rebalances while also bonding and engaging with your baby and connecting with other parents. The class finishes with some time for relaxation and nursery rhymes. Classes are suitable for Beginners. If in doubt please consult with your GP for advice on when to resume practising.

Mummy & Me
Beginners

Beginners yoga is suitable for those new to yoga or those that prefer a slower pace. Each class offers an opportunity to explore different phases of yoga such as breathe, movement, strength and technique to build your practice and confidence. Anyone can start a Yoga practise, even if you feel you are not flexible or very strong. These things will improve the longer you practise and you will start to notice an improvement in flexibility, aches and pains will start to disappear which are often associated with tight hips, lower back pain and rounded shoulders from sitting long hours at a desk. Generally in the western world there is an emphasis on the physical practice but ultimately our yoga practice is a vehicle of self enquiry and realisation that also brings calmness and inner strength.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga targets the deep connective tissues, bones, joints, fascia and ligaments in the body. The more we work our fascial system and deep tissues, the less dense and tight our bodies become as we age. Yin Yoga is based on Traditional Chinese Medine TMC to balance Chi in the body using long-held, passive poses to nourish the connective tissues in the body, promoting greater physical flexibility, organ health and peace of mind. The practice consists mainly of floor-based postures held for varying timescales (1-7 minutes) and can be supported with straps, blocks, bolsters and blankets. It is challenging yet gentle at the same time, and also gives you the chance to quieten the mind in the poses, without the distractions that a busier and more active yang yoga practice can bring. The perfect complement to yang based physical activities and yoga disciplines.
